Ultratech Cement Ltd reported 54.21% growth yoy in total sales revenues for the Jun-21 quarter on consolidated basis at Rs11,830cr. On a sequential basis, the revenues were down -17.88% compared to Rs14,406cr in the Mar-21 quarter indicating that the COVID 2.0 impact was fairly sharp on the top line. Cement is a GDP intensive sector and has benefited substantially from the massive infrastructure investments undertaken by the government.

Ultratech saw volumes go up sharply by 47% you and the volume growth was positive across the North, East, South and Western regions. The capacity utilization during the quarter was sharply up from 26% in Jun-20 quarter to 73% in the Jun-21 quarter. While blended sales were sequentially up 3%, the share of premium products stands at 2% in Jun-21 quarter. The consolidated volumes for the quarter stood at 21.53 million tonnes.

Operating profits were up 85.6% despite a sharp spike in cost. Consider the numbers. On a yoy basis, raw material costs were up 7%, power costs up 12% and logistics costs were up 6%. Despite these factors, the operating boost came from stringent cost controls and better inventory management gains. For the quarter, Ultratech reported Rs.1,689 as EBITDA/ton.

Net profits for the Jun-21 quarter were up 114.38% on a yoy basis at Rs1,703cr even as sequential profits fell by -4.09% on COVID 2.0 effect. Margins have also been impacted by an all-round inflation in input costs. Net margin, however, at 14.39% was higher than 10.35% in the Jun-20 quarter and 12.32% in the sequential Mar-21 quarter.
