Cautiousness among investors can be seen as International Monetary Fund (IMF) revises its GDP growth outlook for India saying that the economy is expected to contract by 4.5% in FY21.
Global indices portrayed mixed sentiments as FTSE 100 was trading down by 0.17% whereas, DAX and CAC 40 were trading in green, up by 0.24% and 0.14%, respectively. Amongst Asian indices, Shanghai index gained by 0.30% whereas, Hang Seng fell by 0.50%, Nikkei decreased by 1.22% and Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) slipped by 2.27%.
Crude oil price fell as a result of an increase in US crude inventories.
Sensex gainers consisted of ITC up by 5.45%, Kotak Mahindra Bank gained by 2.75%, Bajaj Finance rose by 2.35%, HUL increased by 2.04%, ICICI Bank gained by 0.79%, etc.
Sensex draggers were made up of Asian Paints down by 3.30%, Infosys fell by 2.04%, HCL Technologies fell by 1.71%, ONGC decreased by 1.62%, Mahindra & Mahindra decreased by 1.59%, etc.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, FMCG was the biggest gainer, up by 2.25% while, IT was the biggest loser that was down by 1.55%. The broader markets outperformed the equity indices as the BSE Small-cap index and BSE Mid-cap index gained by 0.76% and 0.62%, respectively.
