Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music invites applications for Fall semester 2014

Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM), India’s top professional music college located at MARG Swarnabhoomi near Chennai, invites applications for Fall semester 2014 courses. SAM offers diplomas in Music Performance (in voice and various instruments) as well as Music Production, and also a Bachelor of Music degree from one of USA’s top institutes for music education, McNally Smith College of Music, Minnesota.

The 4-acre campus is the largest contemporary music school in India, and is equipped with state of the art gear and facilities. Students have access to pianos, drum sets and tube amplifiers, a fully-equipped professional studio and a star-studded faculty line-up. SAM faculty is consistently one of the best in Asia, with Grammy nominees, top New York jazz musicians, and members of legendary groups like Yes, Journey and Dream Theater. It is a truly international school, located in a Special Economic Zone, with students from over 38 countries and faculty from 28 countries. Students applying for this Fall semester have good reason to be excited.

RicFierabracci, multiple Grammy nominee, bassist, composer and producer is coming to SAM as guest bass faculty for the semester. He has played with some of the biggest names in jazz & pop – Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, GuthriGovan, Stevie Wonder, Shakira, Frank Gambale, Billy Cobham and many more. In 2008, his debut CD called “Hemispheres” was nominated for a Grammy in the 51st Grammy’s as “Best Contemporary Jazz Album.” That same year Ric was also nominated twice for “best Instrumental Jazz Solo” on other recordings.

Regular bass faculty Parker McAllister isan award-winning touring and recording bassist based in New York City. The first electric bassist to be accepted to the prestigious New England Conservatory in Boston, he tours with the Grammy winning group, Sweet Honey In The Rock.

Veronica Nunes,a native of Rio de Janeiro, and a graduate of EPM Holanda,will teach vocals. Critically acclaimed, the singer’s debut album has been presented in different venues in the US, Brazil and at international music festivals, like the St Barths Summer Sessions in St Barths.

Ricardo Vogt, Berklee graduate and guitar player for Esperanza Spalding, has played around the world with various artists. Specialising in multiple genres like bossa nova, samba, choro and traditional jazz, he is also an innovator on the guitar with a special custom instrument designed for him by Godin Guitars.

Drum faculty Jovol Bell, also from Berklee College of Music, is a native of the city of Angleton in the “big” state of Texas. Technical and soulful, he has played with some of the biggest names around, including Dave Fiuczynski, Hiromi Uehera, and Stanley Clarke.

Platinum-certified Ed DeGenaro, with over 30 years of experience in production with the best producers on the planet in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, and Europe, is not just known around the world for his virtuosic guitar playing but also does tech consulting for Pro Audio companies like Universal Audio, Fractal Audio, Line 6, Telefunken, and many more. Ed will head the Production department at SAM.
Born in the United States, and educated at the Berklee College of Music, multi-instrumentalist and studio-wiz Scott Seelig will teach Piano as well as some production classes.

Umayalpuram Mali,mridangam player and Carnatic faculty has performed and taught around the world including at Harvard University, where he went on a Fulbright Fellowship.

Sreyas Narayanun, an AIR and Doordarshan “A” grade artist, is a Carnatic vocalist of outstanding merit and has performed in prestigious concert halls in India and abroad.
Ujjayinee Roy, a singer, songwriter and composer from Chennai, India. She has decades of experience as a professional singer, having sung with AR Rahman, Illayaraja, and Selvaganesh.
