Bank credit increases to Rs102.11 lakh cr in the latest fortnight; Deposits rise to Rs141.76 lakh cr

On a yoy basis, both deposits and credit have recorded significant growth.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the deposits and credit performance of scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) in the latest fortnight ending August 28, 2020. On a yoy basis, both deposits and credit have recorded significant growth.

However, compared to the previous fortnight, bank credit was mostly on a muted level, while deposits saw a gradual rise.

As on August 28, 2020, bank credit stands at over Rs102.11 lakh cr compared to Rs96.80 lakh in the same period last year. In the fortnight ending August 14, 2020, the credit stood at Rs102.19 lakh cr.

Meanwhile, deposits rose to Rs141.76 lakh cr as on August 28, 2020, compared to Rs127.80 lakh cr in the fortnight ending August 30, 2019. However, bank deposits stood at Rs140.80 lakh cr in the fortnight ending August 14, 2020.

SCBs' outstanding food credit was at Rs65941.47cr as on August 28, 2020, against Rs73082.15cr as on August 14, 2020, and Rs62391.61cr as on August 30, 2019.
