An award ceremony held on the occasion of BMA's 60th Anniversary

Bangalore Management Association (BMA), recognized as the best management association of the country, felicitated eminent Bangaloreans from different fields to mark the 60th Anniversary of the association yesterday. The BMA Awards are a tribute to those individuals who have been instrumental in shaping the city as the hub of innovation and start-ups in IT, Bio Tech, Healthcare Education, Manufacturing. In a scintillating ceremony held last evening, BMA conferred the awards to a host of eminent personalities who has been the architects of the Garden City.


The event  was presided over by Justice R V Raveendran, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson, News Broadcasters Standards Authority. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Sri K J George, Hon. Home Minister of Karnataka, Dr. Hari Krishna Maram, Chairman BMA and Guest of Honor  D Shiva Kumar, President, All India Management Association (AIMA).  Several industry stalwarts including, Ms. Vinita Bali, Managing Director, Britannia Industries Ltd.,  Sanjay Padode, Secretary, IFIM Business School, Dr. Devi Shetty Narayana Hrudayalaya,  Bhaskar Bhat Managing Director Titan,  Vikram Kirloskar Toyoto Kirloskar were honoured in this illustrious award ceremony.


Dr. Maram, Chairman of Bangalore Management Association said in his opening speech at the ceremony, "We have carefully selected the awardees based on the criteria of the size of the organization, the CSR activities that the company has undertaken and the kind of leadership that the company has shown. We aim at bringing all the awardees by the end of this month for a panel discussion on the growth of our state and submit a paper to the Government."


The evening also saw various eminent personalities present, talk about the past, present and future about the city while sharing valuable suggestions regarding the city's growth and well-being.


Sri K J George, Hon. Home Minister of Karnataka, while addressing the audience, called upon all the citizen of Bangalore to join hands with the Government and help develop the city. "Bangalore Management Association has played a pivotal role in the growth of the city and the state. Karnataka is a state with a lot of opportunities and the government is trying its best to make it the most developed state in the country. The citizens of Bangalore and Karnataka should join hands and contribute to an all inclusive growth."


Says, Justice R V Raveendran, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson, News Broadcasters Standards Authority "A leader is someone who knows the way, shows the way and follows the way. A manager should strive to achieve his/her goals while never losing focus of  professional and personal ethics. India is one of those countries that has the highest number of working population, which bestows upon us the responsibility of leading them the right away even more."


D Shiv Kumar, President AIMA, while enumerating the journey of Bangalore, said "Twenty years ago Bangalore started its journey towards becoming a corporate city. Today, it has become a multicultural city and several corporate have moved their base here. We have had some outstanding leadership that has contributed towards the growth of the city. It is a proud moment for all of us that BMA is celebrating Bangalore and felicitating the heroes of the city, as part of its 60th year celebration."


The awardees at the ceremony were:

  • Best CEO of the year  - Ms. Vinita Bali, Managing Director, Britannia Industries Ltd.

  • Entrepreneur of the Decade  - Dr. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing director, Biocon

  • Business Leader of the Decade-  Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director, Titan Industries

  • Best Manufacturing Industry of the year - Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd.

  • Best Health Care Institution of the year - Narayana Health City

  • Best Banker Award - Canara Bank

  • Best IT services Company of the Year - Wipro Technologies
