SGT University, Gurgaon celebrates 1st Foundation Day

Health Exhibition was organized for the benefit of School going children and local community

As part of its 1st Foundation Day celebrations, the SGT University today organized an elaborate health exhibition, quiz contest for school children and a cultural show by students of SGT University.

The Health Exhibition was the most elaborate feature of the week long celebrations. The University organized a unique Health Exhibition for the benefit of over 4000 school children who were invited to the institution on the occasion. The specialized Department of Hospital & College showcased their activities, to give students insight into health and lifestyle related issues that will help students make informed decisions, lead healthy lives as well as spread a positive message in society.

The Orthopedic Department briefed them on the critical issues of arthritis and osteoporosis. Students were informed about new joint replacement techniques and how to prevent osteoporosis at all age levels. Bone mineral density equipment was also displaced at the exhibition.

Department of surgery showcase Laparoscopic method of removing the Gallbladder and pointed out the prevalence of Breast Cancer and various types of Kidney Stones which are common in this belt.

The Psychiatry Department informed student on stress management and means of avoiding drug addiction which is so common in this age group.

The Medicine Department educated the children on the incidence, prevalence of heart disease and demonstrated how to give first aid in cases of heart attack as well as the management of life style diseases.

A quiz contest was also held on the occasion to challenge participants on various aspects of subject matter. Over 162 students from across 16 schools of Gurgaon participated in the Quiz.

A large number of people from the surrounding villages also attended the Health Exhibition who were invited with an aim to make the rural population around the Institution premises aware of the health problems to pre-empt the diseases. A cultural programme was also presented by the students of the University for the entertainment of the passing-out students of SGT University who are going to be awarded with BDS, MDS, BPT and MPT degrees in the Convocation scheduled for the 28th January, the last day of the week long celebrations.

Talking about the first Foundation Day celebrations, Dr. Kamlesh Kohli, Director, Faculty of Medicines & Allied Health Sciences  said, “There could be no better way to celebrate SGT completing its first year as a University than having our students share their knowledge with school children and members of local communities. Organizing a Health Exhibition and Quiz for school children and sensitizing local communities was our way of reaffirming  our commitment to impart holistic education, spread awareness and provide medical care  and dental services to the people in the local community.”
