Asian markets mixed ahead of Trump-Biden's presidential debate

Markets in South Korea are closed Wednesday for a holiday.

Asian stock markets were flat in Wednesday’s session with the Shanghai Composite trading in the green and Japan markets were lower, with the Nikkei 225 shedding 1.50% while the Topix index declined 1.64%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index advanced 0.84% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 dropped 1.93%. Markets in South Korea are closed Wednesday for a holiday.

On the economic data front, China’s official manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for September came in at 51.5 on Wednesday as compared to 51.0 in August, according to the country’s National Bureau of Statistics.

On the political front, US President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden are set to begin their first presidential debate.

Meanwhile, Wall Street closed lower on Tuesday, snapping a three-day winning streak. The Dow dipped more than 100 points or 0.5%, the S&P 500 also closed 0.5% lower and the Nasdaq Composite slid 0.3%.
