Bulls of Friday: Nifty FMCG index gains 2%; Heavyweights HUL, ITC, Nestle drives the performance

Varun Beverages and Procter & Gamble Hygiene also made significant gains; Emami emerges lone laggard.

Nifty FMCG stocks rally to outperform 2% amid volatile trade on Friday. Heavyweights Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) and ITC emerged the biggest gainers to help the overall market while Nestle India also gained significantly to be in the top five gainers list on the NSE. Emami was the lone laggard.

At around 12.35 pm, Nifty Pharma was trading at 33,855.25 up 632.65 points or 1.90%, touching a high of 33,871.85 during intraday trade on Friday. The Index kept climbing despite a gap down opening.

Varun Beverages (VBL) surged 2.59% at Rs1,000.70 per piece to lead the charge. HUL and ITC followed with 2.55% gains each. HUL was trading at Rs2,271.75 per piece while ITC at Rs223.20 per piece. 

Procter & Gamble Hygiene also advanced 2.47% at Rs12,913.15 per piece. 

Marico and United Spirits also gained over 2% while UBL advanced nearly 2%. Nestle India gained 1.56% at Rs16,454.10 per piece. 

Godrej Consumer, Tata Consumer, Britannia and Dabur were also bullish. Colgate Plamolive and Jubilant Foodworks were alsomarginally higher. 

Emami shed 1.445 at Rs477.75 per piece to emerge the lone laggard in the sector.
