European markets trade flat; Nikkei index ends higher

European markets were mixed on Friday as investors monitored tense negotiations between the UK and the European Union, while Asian markets ended on a mixed note.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 hovered around the flatline with banks fell 1.3% while household goods added 0.7%. FTSE and CAC were in the green while DAX is trading flat at 13,209.44 levels.

As per media reports, the EU on Thursday urged the UK to abandon its plan to renege on the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and threatened legal action, but UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government has vowed to press ahead with its Internal Market Bill, despite acknowledgment that the move violates international law.

Elsewhere in Asia, Nikkei, Hang Seng, Jakarta, Shanghai Composite and Kospi ended in the positive zone, while SET Composite and Taiwan index ended in the red.
