Govt intends to give farmers 50% of profit

Curbing food inflation and boosting farm productivity were among the key concern areas of the new Government

New Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said that the government will focus more on improving irrigation and insurance coverage for farmers.
The proposed irrigation scheme would be on the lines of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Singh said.
More schemes will be introduced for farmers and we intend to give farmers a minimum 50% return over their costs of cultivation. However, the 50% profit is a long-term goal, he added.
He said that the Government would look into the issue of MSP for the forthcoming season.

On the preparedness to deal with below normal monsoon, Singh said that the country will be well equipped to deal with below average monsoon. Over 10% of government funds must be earmarked to offset monsoon.
