Nifty FMCG holds steady; Varun Beverages, Emami lead the gains

Jubilant Foodworks also gained 0.86% while Hindustan Unilever was also 0.54% on the upside. Colgate Palmolive and Dabur dragged the sector a bit.

Nifty FMCG index was trading higher, tracking the overall bullish market. The gains however were subdued as the investors seemed cautious due to the ongoing Covid-19 surge and quarterly earnings announcements.

The Index gained over 60 points with Varun Beverages and Emami leading the charge. At around 1.10 pm, Nifty FMCG was trading at 33,930.60 up 64.90 points or 0.19%, after touching a high of 34,028.00 and low of 33,888.35 during intraday trade on Tuesday.

Varun Beverages surged 2.55% at Rs922.00 per piece on Tuesday. Emami was 1.78% higher at Rs505.90 per piece.

Jubilant Foodworks also gained 0.86% while Hindustan Unilever was also 0.54% on the upside. Marico advanced 0.46%. United Breweries was also 0.37% higher ahead of quarterly earnings annoucement. 

United Spirits, Tata Consumer, ITC and Godrej Consumer were marginally higher.

Colgate Palmolive and Dabur dragged the sector a bit. Colgate Palmolive traded 0.68% lower at Rs1,494.25 per piece. Dabur dropped 0.62% at Rs537.95 per piece.

Britannia she 0.54% ahead of announcing quarterly financial results on Tuesday.

Nestle was 0.4% down, the Swiss food giant said on Monday that it is in discussions to buy nutritional supplement maker The Bountiful Company,  confirming earlier reports it was close to a deal in the mid-single digit billions.

Procter & Gamble Hygiene was also trading marginally lower.
