Nifty FMCG in subdued trade; Heavyweights Jubilant Foodworks, HUL weigh; Marico, United Spirits lead

Tata Consumer, Varun Beverages, and ITC also gained between 0.6% - 0.4%

Nifty FMCG index was trading on a flat note on Thursday. The Index remained subdued amid some volatile trade and ahead of F&O expiry. Marico and United Spirits led the gains while heavyweights Jubilant Foodworks and HUL weighed on the index.

Indices made slow gains after a volatile session with BSE Sensex trading at 51,018.43 up 0.91 points or 0.00% and Nifty50 at 15,304.65 up 3.20 points or 0.02%.

At around 2.10 pm, Nifty FMCG was trading at 34,791.95 down 23.75 points or 0.07% after touching a high of 34,957.75 and low of 34,741.80 during intraday trade.

The Index has witnesses mostly subdued trade since the second wave of Covid-19.

Marico surged 1.7% to lead gains at Rs467.00 per piece while United Spirits followed closely to lift the performance at Rs599.50 per piece up ~1.5%. Colgate Palmolive advanced 1.17% at Rs1,698.75 per piece and Godrej Consumer also advanced 0.8% to support the sector.

Tata Consumer,  Varun Beverages and ITC also gained beween 0.6% - 0.4%. Emami and Procter & Gamble Hygiene were trading flat.

Jubilant Foodworks slipped 1.7% at Rs3,091.20 per piece to emerge the biggest laggard while HUL shed 0.9% at Rs2,333.00 per piece. 

United Breweries, Dabur, Britannia and Nestle India also traded lower.
