NSDL, CDSL investor accounts exceed 2 cr in July

CDSL had 89.75 lakh investor accounts at the end of July this year, a growth of 84.70 lakh accounts in the year-ago period.

The total number of investor accounts of the two depositories—NSDL (National Securities Depository Ltd) and CDSL (Central Depository Services Ltd)—increased to 2.22 crore in July from 2.13 crore in July 2013, according to the data with the depositories.
NSDL and CDSL allow investors to deposit securities on opening accounts. The securities like shares, debentures, bonds of investors are held in electronic form (dematerialised form) at the depositories.
Individually, the total number of investor accounts was 1.32 crore at NSDL at the end of July 2014 as against 1.28 crore in the same period last year.
CDSL had 89.75 lakh investor accounts at the end of July this year, a growth of 84.70 lakh accounts in the year-ago period.
The total value of securities in dematerialised form at the depositories was around Rs. 116 lakh crore at the end of July, a rise of nearly 62% over the same period in 2013.
