Opening Bell: Sensex, Nifty trades flat; Midcaps outperform; NTPC, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto leads

On sectoral indices front, BSE Oil & Gas zooms by near 2%, while BSE Utilities clock over 2% gains.

The Indian market is performing on a flat note during Friday's opening session tracking mixed global cues. However, overall the benchmarks were in the green. At around 09.28 am, Sensex was trading at 44,274.25 up 14.51 points or 0.03%. While Nifty was performing at 12,991.95 up 4.95 points or 0.04%. 

In the early deals, Sensex has touched the day's high and low of 44,407.28 and 44,195.95 respectively. Whereas, Nifty has clocked the day's low and high of 13,035.30 and 12,976.60 respectively.

BSE Midcap surges 1.01% and was trading at 16,766.24. BSE SmallCap also saw buying sentiment, advancing by 0.85% and trading at 16,620.33.

On sectoral indices front, BSE Oil & Gas zooms by near 2%, while BSE Utilities clock over 2% gains. BSE Power, BSE Realty, BSE Auto, BSE Auto, BSE Industrials and BSE Capital Goods soared by near 1% each.

Top gainers on Sensex were - NTPC (+2.4%), Asian Paint (+1.4%), Bajaj Auto (+1.2%), Tech Mahindra (+1.14%) and Nestle India (+1.12%).

Top underperformers were - Power Grid (-2%), followed by RIL, Axis Bank, TCS and SBI down between 0.5-0.7%.

Stocks that will remain in focus today are - Lakshmi Vilas Bank, M&M, NTPC, TCS, Adani Transmission, Kalpataru Power, Gillette and AU Small Finance Bank.

Asian stock market struggles on Friday after investors raise eyebrows over the effectiveness one of the data of Covid-19 vaccine. AstraZeneca faced backlash after the company and the University of Oxford announced data errors in Covid-19 result.

Japan's Nikkei 225 eased past few days winning streak and was trading at 26,606.86 up by mere 0.26%. While South Korea's KOSPI index was flat at 2,627.77.

Other Asian stocks indices were in the red with Australia ASX All Ordinaries down 0.5%, China's Shanghai SE Composite Index down 0.05%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng lower by 0.20% and Taiwan TSEC 50 Index in the negative zone, however, flat compared to the previous closing.

The US market was closed on Thursday on the occasion of Thanksgiving. This market will commence trading today.
