Domestic stock markets extended losses to a third straight day on Friday tracking weakness in the global market. The second wave of a virus sweeping through Europe has given rise to fears of re-introduction of lockdowns pressurizing the global stock markets with a countdown of U.S. presidential election.

Losses in financial, auto and consumer goods shares pulled the markets lower, however, gains in energy and metal stocks arrested the fall in today’s trade.

The Sensex ended down 135.78 points or 0.34% at 39,614.07 and the Nifty was down 28.40 points or 0.24% at 11,642.40. Around 950 stocks ended with gains while 885 stocks reported losses on the NSE.

Bharti Airtel, Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors, Maruti Suzuki and HUL were among major losers on the Nifty50 index, while gainers included Adani Ports, BPCL, Coal India, Sun Pharma and Tata Steel.

India VIX ended higher by 3% at 24.75.
