Mainland Chinese stocks were mixed by the afternoon, with the Shanghai Composite 0.13% higher while the Shenzhen component dipped 0.34%.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index edged 0.62% higher, the Nikkei 225 was 0.31% higher while the Topix index advanced 0.34% and South Korea’s Kospi also rose 0.43%.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 152.84 points higher, or 0.5%, at 28,363.66. The S&P 500 added 0.5% to finish its trading day at 3,453.49 while the Nasdaq Composite closed 0.2% higher at 11,506.01.
Meanwhile, oil prices were lower, with international benchmark Brent crude futures shedding 0.14% to $42.40 per barrel and U.S. crude futures dipped 0.12% to $40.59 per barrel.
As per media reports, the final presidential debate involving United States President and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump and his rival from the Democratic Party Joe Biden is underway. The debate will span 90 minutes and involve topics such as fighting COVID-19, climate change, national security and the two candidates leadership record. This debate serves as the last opportunity for millions of voters to directly compare the two leading candidates policies and personalities.
