Nifty above 10,100-mark; Metal index up 3%

The Nifty Metal index surged 3% as the rally was led by MOIL, Tata Steel, SAIL and Jindal Steel.

Equity indices market pared most of its initial gains in the morning trade, however, strong buying was seen in HDFC Bank, Reliance and ICICI Bank. The stock markets trimmed major gains tracking a mixed trend in the Asian indices in the morning trade.

The Sensex rose 183 points at 34,153 and the Nifty also climbed 83 points at 10,113. India VIX is down 1% at 29.37.

The Nifty Metal index surged 3% as the rally was led by MOIL, Tata Steel, SAIL and Jindal Steel.

Shares of Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries, Dhampur Sugar Mills and Balrampur Chini Mills surged in today’s trade on the BSE.

Further, oil prices eased slightly as markets wait to see whether major producers will commit to an extension of record production cuts to support oil prices.

Brent crude futures were down 8 cents, or 0.2%, at $39.91 a barrel and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 15 cents, or 0.4%, to $37.26 a barrel.
