Sensex opens higher led by metal, auto stocks

On the Nifty50 index, Hindalco, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp and UltraTech Cement were the top gainers while ICICI Bank, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech and Dr Reddy's led the losses.

Sensex Up
Domestic market extended its positive start made to the October F&O series on Tuesday’s session. The stock market gained for the third consecutive session led by buying in all key sectors led by metal, auto and IT indices.

At 9:18 AM, the Sensex was trading 162 points higher at 38,143 while the Nifty rose 61 points to 11,288. Broader markets also rose with Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices up 0.6% and 1%, respectively.

On the Nifty50 index, Hindalco, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp and UltraTech Cement were the top gainers while ICICI Bank, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech and Dr Reddy's led the losses.

Meanwhile, the dollar was steady against a basket of currencies as traders looked out to the first US presidential debate and developments on the US stimulus bill.
