TBLA '13 goes to SP Jain Institute of Management

In the campus-track of TBLA, team Task Force of the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai won the top honours, followed by IIM Shillong’

Teams from the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai and Tata International, Mumbai, have won the coveted Tata Business Leadership Awards (TBLA) 2013. The Chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus P. Mistry,presented the awards at a ceremony here yesterday. This is the 11th year of Tata Business Leadership Awards, an annual business case competition.

‘Synergizing Business Opportunities: Expanding Horizons in Africa’ was the theme of the competition this year. Participants had to identify business opportunities and suggest an entry plan for any two Tata group businesses, yet to set foot in Africa, harnessing synergies between themselves. The cases were evaluated, by a jury comprising renowned academicians and Tata leaders.

 

TBLA is conducted across premier business schools (campus-track) and Tata companies (internal-track), to engage with bright young minds and provide them with a platform to showcase their leadership and entrepreneurial capability.

 

In the campus-track of TBLA, team Task Force of the SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai won the top honours, followed by IIM Shillong’ s team Business as Usual (1st runners-up) and IIM Indore’s team The Tata African Safari (2nd runners-up). The participants in the national round also included teams from FMS Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow and XLRI Jamshedpur. In all, there were205 teams for campus-track.

 

In the internal-track of TBLA, team Okavango of Tata International won the top honours, followed by Tata Motors’ Pantnagar team Daksh (1st runners-up) and Tata Teleservices’Mumbai team Friends of Africa (2nd runners-up). The participants in the national round also included teams from different Tata companies, namely, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata International, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Steel, Tata Steel Europe and Tata Teleservices. In all, there were 102 teams for internal track.

 

In both the categories, the TBLA 2013 national winners walked away with the TBLA rolling trophy and Rs. 2,00,000 cash prize while the 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up received an attractive cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. In addition to these prizes, a number of gifts were given to the winners by Tata group companies – Infinity Retail, Tata Teleservices, Titan, Roots Corporation and Indian Hotels.
