Indian benchmark indices ended sharply lower on July 22, 2026, with Sensex falling 715 points and Nifty closing below the 24,000 mark. Investor sentiment weakened after US President Donald Trump's proposed tariffs on imported generic medicines, escalating US-Iran tensions, rising Brent crude oil prices, a weaker rupee, and heavy selling in banking, pharma and IT stocks. Despite the broader market weakness, Bajaj Auto and Nestlé India gained on the back of strong Q1 FY27 earnings.
